Vintage Rucanor

Here’s another interesting stack of vintage. For those unfamiliar, Rucanor is a Dutch brand creating sportswear, founded in 1956 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The companies name stands for Rubber and Canvas Organization. Founder of the brand, Joop van Rijswijk, passed away in 2008.

The strange thing about this batch is that there is no model name mentioned on the boxes, and no labels inside of the shoes. For two pairs I assume the name is mentioned on the shoe itself, the Smash Pro & Rebel, but the names of the other three remain a mystery. If you have any info please leave a comment and I’ll adjust the post.

As I used to play tennis in the early nineties, these models are definitely to my liking. My favorite models here are the Smash Pro and the two other typical tennis shoes with suede & mesh. Not only as these are my favorite materials, but also because of the lovely colors. A combination of white mesh, off-white suede and natural brown mid soles with a tiny hint of bright blue, teal or purple. Also take a look at look the superb stitching details, especially on the toebox.

I have no idea from what year these are, judging the materials used and shape the Rebel and white/purple model seem the younger ones. The rebel is the more technical of the two, with the higher out sole and blue detailing on the side and heel. All pairs should be from between ’90 – ’95, again, any help with determining production date or model names is greatly appreciated.

  • Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is fundamental and all. However just imagine if you added some great graphics or video clips to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and videos, this website could undeniably be one of the best in its field. Very good blog!
