WDYWT: Asics Gel 66
Its been a long time since my last WDYWT post, so here goes #2. When tidying up the attic I came across this vintage pair that never touched concrete. I must admit I didn’t went out on em as these are only for a sunny summer day.
The Asics Gel 66′s is a model from 1993, this particular color-way dates from the same year. They are made from classic materials like felt, polyester and synthetic leather. Some nice details are the 3M details and speckled midsole on the heels. The colors used clearly refer to the date of release, purple & mint on a white base and black logo.
These were a steal from eBay after a heads up by Mr. ACG (salute). As often happens with vintage, these came with a couple of flaws even being DS. They felt material and logo on the sides are dirty, looks like bleeding from a careless way of stocking. Judging by the smell they had on arrival these could have been used to store tabacco in as well. The biggest concern is the midsole as there is some visible movement when pulling it from the shoe, the first and third picture below show a little of this too. We’ll see how long they hold when taking em out for a walk next summer, not a shoe on ice around here.
