Ascics Collectors Guide 2.0

In October 2010 I interviewed Peel, the founder of the Asics Collectors Guide about his mission to shed light into the rich footwear history of the brand. Last week the site had a huge update, time for some questions again.

Pyrophilly: The site had a complete transformation, why?
Peel: Well, the previous version was built as a temporary site, a place where I wanted to share info on my kicks. Soon the idea evolved into creating a vintage sneakers archive. Also, the Content Management System was way too simple for more complex constructions. All in all the progress was natural.

Pyrophilly: So tell us whats new
Peel: Haha, well… Everything!

Pyrophilly: C’mon son…
Peel: Okok, here we go: the new site has been built from scratch with a new design and lots of new features. First is a robust search method, search by model, model symbol, color, color symbol, release date or by a custom search query.
Second new thing is the ‘Columns’ section, for now there will be two types; acg.tv which is simply a videocast and collectors talk. The second one would be a series of articles in which I’d like to talk to fellow collectors about different aspects of the hobby, from history to background info from the whole sneaker biz.

Pyrophilly: In our previous interview you mentioned plans for a wiki, is that still on the wishlist?
Peel: Hell yeah, but that’s rather a long-term plan. More features will be added every now and than, for now all updates will be placed in the ‘Announce’ column and via the ACG Twitter.

Pyrophilly: Ive noticed no sign-up possibility, whats up with that?
Peel: Correct, thats the same as it was in the previous version. Users simply click the ‘Submit’ button in the top right corner and upload a pic, fill the form and done. Users can also share pics on our Flickr group. If you dont know anything about a model you have, no problemo, we’ll figure everything out.

Pyrophilly: I think that covers it, thanks for your time again and good luck with the site. Any last words?
Peel: Keep an eye on www.acollectorsguide.com, theres lots of things happening the coming months. Follow us on twitter, and join our Flickr group!
