The eco-friendly shoebox
I like shoes. I like shoes so much that I have a lot. Currently I store my shoes in its purest form, stacking box on box, without support of a rack or such. A problem I face with the constant expansion of pairs is that the boxes at the bottom have a hard time coping with the weight. Therefor I like boxes that are decently made; solid & strong, made for stacking.
Although Nike’s marketing department is not unfamiliar with sneakerculture it seems that the phenomenon of stacking boxes is losing its support by the world biggest sportswear producer. The latest addition of Nikes shoebox looks very much like the previous one, but has a couple of differences. It uses less cardboard, is lighter and surprise, surprise: a lot less happy with being stacked.
Expanding profit is not only achieved by making products better, optimizing the production process aka cutting on costs is just as important. Of course the improved shoebox is not cheaper by using less marial, its just eco-friendlier than before…
On the left the previous, on the right the new & improved, feel free to share your thoughts on the subject below.
