What Else? #5 7Union
The New Era Cap Company plays a huge roll in the fitted cap market. Being the exclusive manufacturer of the official on-field cap worn by every Major League Baseball team is one of the main reasons for this. I do wonder if people are aware of the alternatives available when looking for a fitted cap. Nowadays there are plenty of brands producing top quality fitted caps. A great thing as competition is the best way to force companies to perform at their best. In a series of posts I will try to encourage fitted enthusiasts to look further than what they’re familiar with, by showing one alternative at a time.
In What Else? #5 we take a look at 7 Union. The Japan based cap & hat company started in 2004 starting with headwear only, but expanded to clothing & accessoires in 2011. The selection below shows the variety the brand with the golden hexagon sticker has to offer.
Style
One of the things that sets & Union apart from other fitted producers is the variety in styles. There are many color & material combinations that return every collection in fitted land (no shots). Although the Japanese brand offers some of these familiar makeups, most of them are a little less traditional. This is reflected in prints, (3D) stitches, materials, colors & details, the underbill of the three hats below are a nice example.
Quality
The quality of every piece is high. In the examples below you can see very clear how careful stitches are applied. The straw fitted is heavy on logo’s & 3D stitching and the execution of these is superb, where straw is a hard canvas to work on. The white piece with an all-over floral print shows that same craftsmanship.
Fit
The thing I like best of 7 Union is the fit. I like my melon to be covered as much as possible, meaning that Im looking for a deep fit. With 7 3/4 that seems a hard thing to accomplish, the only brand that always provided the perfect fit is 7 Union.
Im a huge fan of 7 Union. The creativity, unconventional designs in combination with high quality production has me always on the lookout. The brand is a little harder to get your hands on outside Japan, but their online shop does offer international shipping and has a huge selection (700+) of styles to choose from. For those looking for that deep fit; 7 Union is precise to fit that format.
