In the series ‘Apps for Sneakerheads’ Im giving an overview of handy, well thought out mobile applications that are useful for sneakerheads (and non-sneakerheads alike). The previous app was Moneybook, a great little app to keep track of all your expenses. Now you got your expenses sorted its time to keep track of all release dates. Calvetica is the perfect app for doing so.

Why use this app?
Because you need to store all the release dates that are coming up. Also, if you are a fan of the Helvetica font; this ones for you.

What does it do?
What the default iPhone calendar does, but while looking better. A nice extra over the default calendar app is that you will a dot for each event added on a day. So multiple dots indicate multiple events. When installing the app you might be bummed about the fact that the icon doesn’t show the current day, that is because Apple doesn’t allow developers to do so. However, when navigating to Settings > Calvetica > Use icon badge to… and selecting ‘Indicate day of the month’ you will no longer have that problem. Below is how the app icon will look after being enhanced with a date revealing badge.

Why its great
Because it looks stunning and it works like a charm. The UX is great in this application, a personal favorite is the animation shown when switching months, seeing how the date numbers rearrange is really cool, but im getting way too geeky now. When you first install the app get wild with it, there a lot of features to be revealed by swiping, make sure to switch between portrait and landscape mode too. All in all this is one clean app, fitting Apples design ethics a lot better than the native calendar app.

The app is available for iPhone / iPod touch and will set you back $0.99 / €0.79. Download from the Appstore
